Flying Eagle Cent Mintage

  • The Flying Eagle Cent was minted for circulation for only two years in 1857 and 1858. It was also minted as a patten coin in 1856 to show the new design to Congress. Some coins dated 1856 were also subsequently restruck in 1857 and 1858.
  • During the two years the coins were struck for circulation, mintages were relatively high. As a result, these coins are readily obtainable in circulated grades.
  • The table below presents the mintage figures for the Flying Eagle Cent series. All coins were struck in Philadelphia.
Year Mintage
1856 2,000
1857 17,450,000
1858 24,600,000
